Since the advent of the 20th century, we have observed the most diverse and contradictory visions of goodness, truth and beauty in terms of musical interpretations. The overriding goal of the Consortium Rhenus is a cooperative attempt to create a lively, modern, yet authentic musical aesthetic.

To this end, the members of Consortium Rhenus have chosen not to limit their repertoire to particular historical time periods. The ensemble plays pieces spanning the ages from baroque to contemporary. It’s a natural outcome, considering the musicians’ extensive training at some of the most renowned conservatories of Europe and the US and their day to day experiences on the concert circuit.  Some of the members are holding principal positions in leading European orchestras. Others draw upon their backgrounds as freelance performers. Several of the musicians have been playing together since student days, performing in a wide variety of formations. For that reason alone it’s hard to define a founding date for Consortium Rhenus.

The cast of musicians can vary at every project, from duo/trio to chamber orchestra complete with conductor. We have provided several audio clips including Luigi Boccerini’s “Stabat Mater,” for Soprano and String Quartet, the Motette “In Furore” by Antonio Vivaldi and Baldassare Galuppi’s “Second Sonata for Orchestra”.
The idea of this program was the brainchild of singer Ina Kancheva and conductor Ulrich Kern. Their vision was to present the works in an authentic venue. That’s why the recordings were done in a chapel at the Nothgottes convent in Rüdesheim. Also the name of the ensemble was chosen here in this beautiful Rheingau region.
